Le Championnat Super Mario Kart / CDF-CDM development

Salut tout le monde!

I started a thread on the English forum a couple days ago, maybe this is the better place for it because the topic is especially directed at organisers and frequent participants of the SMK championships. I would like to know a bit more about its history, how the event grew and became what it is today. Based on the information I see on the ffsmk website and the few bits I was told at last year's CDM, I have the following questions:

1) The CDF started with 14-16 players the first couple of years. Did you try more than spreading the word about it on the internet and with friends? Were you lucky to have a strong basis/community in France with 20-30 people who like to come and partly learn the game?

2) When did you start cooperations with sponsors, most important Nintendo France? What does it take to get their attention and sponsorship?

3) When did the CDM draw media interest outside our MK community (local newspapers/TV channel)?

I also appreciate any stories beside answers to my questions above, feel free to write down your memories about the development of this great gathering .

Ok Mario, would be nice to see you as an active player . Do what you can.

@ tif: Everyone is welcome to join the meet and watch the action, nevertheless the location is quite small and doesn't offer much space for additional spectators. There are only 16 beds available and I don't know how serious you are by speaking of sharing a bed (with Zarkov); rather sounds like a tif joke . If I'm mistaken here or if the number of participants will stay below 16, you can definitely attend and stay over night there.

Date: Juillet 26-31 (mardi-dimanche)
Localité/Lieu: Heiper LAN House, Solingen, Allemagne

To avoid misunderstandings, I like to continue in English here (excusez-moi ). For the 4th consecutive year, the European MK64 meet will take place in Solingen, an established location close to international airports Düsseldorf and Köln/Bonn so that everyone can reach it well. If you never heard of it yet, it's partly similar to CDM, but still a lot smaller and with less attention outside of our community. I visited the CDM last year and remember that Neo and Zarkov showed some interest to come along. Moreover I wanted to inform everyone here who doesn't read the English message board I've linked above. Dates and location are 100% confirmed, a rough schedule and estimated costs for participants are written down in the linked post as well. All the tournaments will be streamed live on Twitch by the way, you'll also find the registration form with more detailed information here: http://www.twitch.tv/mk64championships

Old-school serve-and-volley style de Dustin Brown , j'ai regardé ce match (aussi Federer-Querrey bien sûr ).

Edit: You are right Djo, I wish they would met again on grass since Roger has completely adjusted to his larger racket and found a decent form again because Rafa always struggled on fast grass courts and even lost to players around #100-150 in 4 consecutive years now! He is cleary on his decline, especially this season on all surfaces.

J'ai besoin d'une place dans une tente pour toutes les nuits.
And to avoid misunderstandings because of my very rusty French, I continue in English now . I'm going to attend the whole CDM week, therefore I'd be happy to find a free place from Tuesday to Sunday morning. Where do you usually put down the bags and suitcases by the way? Leave most of the stuff in the locked venue or on the campsite?
